Advice and Tips using Invitt

“The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself.”

Oscar Wilde

Update frequency

Sometimes the connection might be poor and it may help to improve the speed if the host is clicking on the Ctrl button which indicates that there is some activity going on. This might especially be helpful in certain application where the screen driver is not telling the computer that there is a change on your screen. This have happened a  few times especially during a presentation using MS Powerpoint.

The guest can on the other click on the Manual Update button in the top left hand corner of the screen so that his screen will do a manual update.

When I do an invitt presentation I often ask for confirmation that my guest is seeing the same as I do.

Your guest does not receive the invitation to see your screen

It might be that your guests company has special mail servers with very strong virus and spam filter and it will take too long time for the email to arrive his computer. In that case you can guide your guest to www.invitt.net and let him log in to your computer here. Locate the Show Details button in the Invitt application and click on it. You will see sessionID and password which can be entered on the top of any page on invitt.net. Alternatively if you have a chat program available (could also be live chat on your webpages, or yahoo, msn, skype or any other chat program) which you and your guest can communicate with you can easily copy and paste the connection link into any of these programs.

Poor transmission rate

Sometimes the connection that our server gets through the internet might be a congested route on the first attempt. If you experience too long delays, it might and will probably improve drastically if you disconnect and then reconnect shortly after. The Invitt servers will then reroute the traffic to the most effecient route to your guests.

Prepare your presentation material in advance

The above may sound like an obvious thing to do, but what we mean is that you should open the files you want to discuss with your guest before you send the invitt to your guests. Like setting the table before you ask everybody to come for dinner. I have had many invitt sessions whereby me or others are searching through our respective computers for the files they want to show but cannot find it.

Go slowly

To conduct an effective presentation you should go through it slowly. There will be some delay for your guest before they can see what you see so allow for his computer to be updated before you move on. Ask for confirmation that they see what you see.

Animation and video

Invitt screensharing is not really optimized for video and animation. It simply takes up too much bandwith. Therefore avoid using animation in your powerpoint presentations. If you want to show a video, upload it to the internet or send it via email so that your recipient can view it on his own.
